Marsy’s Law for Georgia Recognized BACA During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Atlanta – October 13, 2026 – An unlikely organization was recognized during October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month by a victims’ rights advocacy group. Marsy’s Law for Georgia honored four Georgia chapters of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) today with a Champion Award at the offices of Isenberg & Hewitt.
BACA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports children when testifying in court against their abusers. Comprised of a diverse group of professionals, these motorcycle riders — with child friendly road names like Jokker and T-Rex — are a supportive and protective group for innocent children.
“As a former biker and former law enforcement officer, I know no one wants to mess with a biker,” said Mel Hewitt, Marsy’s Law for Georgia advisory board member and Isenberg & Hewitt partner. “But I also know that individuals like these BACA members have the biggest hearts to be doing what they do. I commend every member of Bikers Against Child Abuse for standing with children in the fight against domestic violence.”
The Marsy’s Law for Georgia Champion Award is intended to honor and recognize victim service providers and survivors for going above and beyond their advocacy for victims’ rights to be notified of relevant court proceedings, to be heard and to be treated with compassion and dignity during the judicial process. During October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Marsy’s Law for Georgia plans to identify several individuals and organizations to recognize with awards to raise awareness for both domestic violence prevention and victims’ rights. Last week, Dr. Rita Davis-Cannon, victim services director at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia received the first Champion Award of the month for her career advocacy in victim services.
“We do what we do for the children, not for the attention, “ said Jokker, BACA of Georgia president. “No one should ever hurt a child — and if they do, all they need to know is that we are here to stand up for and protect the children.”
Earlier this year during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in April, Marsy’s Law for Georgia recognized the Georgia Office of Victim Services Director Keir Chapple and Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett. Past recipients of the Marsy’s Law Champion Award include U.S. Sen. John Lewis, U.S. Sen. Reverend Raphael Warnock, Rep. Lucy McBath, Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady, former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and Georgia’s First Lady Marty Kemp. Additional recipients will be announced throughout the year.
