Under the new requirements, a person facing domestic violence charges must be held for at least 24 hours, unless released earlier by a judge, allowing the victim more time to seek safety or other resources.
To ensure victims are aware of their Marsy's Law rights, deputies now provide them with a copy of Georgia's Crime Victims Bill of Rights. Deputies have also been instructed to follow up with victims to collect more evidence and check on their well-being.
